Clearly the new startup has some traction, as Twitter clients like TweetDeck begin to incorporate their service.

The creators, Sean Callahan and Rodney Rumford, attribute much of their success to their business model. They were the first and only provider offering a revenue share to developers. TweetPhoto also did a commendable job of reaching out to influencers in the community and sponsoring local events.

TwitPic still has TweetPhoto beat in just every traffic tool I could find, by at least 4X margin. But TweetPhoto has gotten over the initial legitimacy and longevity test where most startups fail, and earned their right as a TwitPic competitor. The match has only just begun…

Which do you prefer? TweetPhoto or TwitPic? I personally like the simplicity of TwitPic, but enjoy the features of TweetPhoto. I think with a couple of key U/X revisions, I could adopt them as my primary image service for Twitter.

There is nothing especially innovative here, considering for Google’s knack for blowing us away with product features. What is important to note about this launch is how it might help your marketing efforts and search engine placement.

Whenever new social service launches, it usually makes sense to secure your business or brand name for a few reasons:

(1) Social foot print:
If you have a consistent presence across most of the Trusted sites like YouTube, LinkedIn, Yelp, etc, it makes it easy for your fans to connect with you and find you. The only way to get the same username on all services is to make sure you sign up right away, even if you don’t plan on using it. Having a deep social footprint (with strong connections, that link to your domain) will empower you to place higher than you would without one, for most keywords.

(2) Get known as an early adopter
When there are only a few people on a new service, the first adopters generally standout. When you import your fans from from other services, you will notice the same gang of innovators and influencers. When you are a business that adopts these technologies first, you will often find marketing bloggers linking to you out of recognition. Early adopters generally have good SEO placement, and there is an indirect correlation there.

(3) Trusted Links
The more trusted sites you have linking back to your main domain, the better your search placement will be. And, when that site linking back to you is GOOGLE, even better! Google Place Pages will help you rank for your business name, if you don’t already.

Each of these pages will apparently have a unique URL but will not be directly indexed in organic results. They will only appear via Maps and Local search, which does get highlighted in Google search above the traditional results.

To sign up for Google Place Pages, search for your business on Google maps, and look for the “EDIT” button in the listing bubble that pops up.

@Pistachio is someone the Twitter community has been quietly routing for, for a while now. It is widely known that she introduced the uber-influential Guy Kawasaki to twitter, among her many other accolades.

Laura Fitton is one of the few that could really get a project like this off the ground, and it looks like she’s timed it perfectly. She got the virtual full Ginsburg from the top media blogs at TC140, which was very well executed.

Our quick and dirty review of the site is 4 out of 5 stars. We love the signup process, naturally built on Twitter’s Oauth ID system, which makes the initial experience very smooth. The oneforty inc., will bring a Yelp-like experience and organization to a very fragmented space. It appears, from early reaction, to be the solution the community has been looking for.

These things has a tendency to get huge spikes initially, especially with the kind of free press oneforty got this week, but also have a habit of fizzling out 90 days later. Lets hope oneforty.com can turn this early momentum into sustainable traffic and more importantly, revenues that exceed their expenses.

Katalyst Media is making waves for what they are doing with big brands and social media, most notably Kellog.

Less than 90 days ago Kellog launched a transformative shift in their marketing campaign and changed their approach to new media. Kellog announced they were donating 10 million dollars to a campaign to fight hunger if they had the participation of the web community, known as Kellog Cares.
